Vi-Ability’s ILM project is chosen as a pilot for the Welsh Government, Communities First and WCVA
Date: 31.05.2011
Winner of both the Welsh and UK 2011 Social Enterprise awards, Vi-Ability Educational Programme, in partnership with Colwyn Bay Football Club has been awarded a contract to create 20 employment opportunities for 16-17 year olds in the Communities First Areas of Conwy over the next twelve months.

The pilot project is part of the Assembly Government’s Youth Engagement and Employment Action Plan, and follows the hugely successful WCVA ILM (Intermediate Labour Market) Model, which provides economically inactive people with training and a period of supported employment.
Those who go through the initiative will be trained in a variety of roles within the football industry, gain recognised qualifications such as the BTEC Level 2 in Football Industries and FAW Level 1 Football Coaching Award, and will go on external work placements at professional clubs across the UK & Europe.
Managing Director of Vi-Ability, Kelly Davies (pictured), said: "Leaving school with limited qualifications or employment experience can leave young people feeling daunted with no career prospects. By taking part in this project , within an inspirational setting like the football club, they will gain real work-place experience and transferable skills to make them more attractive to future employers."
Geoff Cartwright, Chairman of Colwyn Bay FC commented: ‘At a time when the club is achieving huge success, this is a fantastic opportunity for young people in the area to get involved and get a head start in life’.
The pilot programme was officially launched at Llanelian Road on Wednesday 4 May, and recruitment has now started for the first four individuals.
