Message from WSEC chief executive John Bennett

Date: 17.08.2011

I would like to let members and the wider public know that I have written to the chair of the recently renamed Social Enterprise UK (previously the Social Enterprise Coalition) asking for an urgent meeting to discuss the name change.

The name was changed earlier this month, but I believe there should have been more consultation on the rebranding.

We have been contacted by a number of people expressing their concern over the rebranding, because Social Enterprise UK does not have the power to represent the views of social enterprises in Wales to the Welsh Government.

I feel there is an urgent need to determine what the relationship will be between Social Enterprise UK and Wales, and indeed other organisations, to ensure that there is a coordinated voice in the United Kingdom that can influence policy in Westminster.

I will keep you updated.

Thanks, John Bennett
