CEOs of UK social enterprise coalitions meet
Date: 31.05.2011
Heads of the social enterprise coaltions in Wales, England, Scotland and Northern Ireland met in Edinburgh recently to discuss working together to bring more benefits to members, writes John Bennett, CEO of Welsh SEC
I was recently in Edinburgh where I met with fellow Coalition CEOs from Scotland, England and Northern Ireland. At the end of the meeting we agreed to work more closely with each other, to exchange views on best practice, develop closer policy alignment, and share our materials and mutual experiences with our memberships.
We heard, in our meeting, that Scottish social enterprises are receiving strong from their government and that the sector has seen an increase in resources recently. Indeed, in April, an international delegate at the Social Enterprise World Forum in South Africa described Scotland as “probably the best place to start a social enterprise in the world”.
In England, there is considerable debate about the SEC brand, as CEO Peter Holbrook and his team seek the views of the membership on a possible branding and name change.
We look forward to working with each other and our memberships to advance social enterprise around the UK.
John Bennett, CEO of the Welsh SEC
